Cafe Rankings Feedback

Rails gave a good idea about creating a thread instead of limiting it to a single article.

Do you guys have any questions or comments on the rankings?

I have some that I'll get around to posting soon.

Yeah, I think that's a great idea. It would be great if you guys could also link it off the fantasyhockeycafe.com home page maybe?

I'm still struggling with writing some sleeper articles. But maybe the thread will be good enough where people will pick up players they normally wouldn't think about.

You can definitely tell that we didn't discuss our rankings at all before submitting them, that's for sure. And you can also tell that rankings can vary based on how individuals value certain players/categories. For instance, I don't put too much stock in PIMs as a category, because there will always be someone on the waiver wire you can pick up. But that said, a 50 pt/150 PIM guy is extremely valuable to me, more so than a 60-65 pt guy with limited PIM.

My hope is that people take the rankings with a grain of salt and use their own logic to determine who to draft/trade for.

Interesting how low you guys had Vinny. I have him for 40 goals and 50 assists. Now completely healthy, I don't see why he would not be able to return to his old form.

Elias was also ranked pretty high by Rails. I don't see him breaking 60 points.
You also seem to be high on NJ players, Langenbrunner.

Milan Lucic could very easily be that 50 point / 150PIM guy that you mentioned Rails. :-b

Ens also had Alffy ranked 14th overall.
And David Booth at 19th as a LW. I see Booth as a lock for 55 points with upside at 75.

I think I over ranked Kessel in roto leagues. For H2H he could easily earning that position.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to be difficult. Just trying to get some discussion started. ;-D

Lecavalier could easily go to 95 pts, but so can all the other guys I listed ahead of him. The problem with just a straight ranking like this is that we don't include a kind of "power" ranking. For me, everyone ranked from 4-12 could put up the same number of points. It becomes a +/- thing to be honest.

As for Elias, I've always ranked him lower than I should, so this season I gave him a bump. I still think Parise is the only NJ Dev to own this year, but...I think Elias has a pretty good shot at 75 pts this year (which bumps him up as a winger) with ability to go higher. As for Langenbrunner, he was one of those guys I shuffled around numerous times - more a testament to how crappy I think the lower tier of RWs is in the NHL these days.

Lucic could be 50/150 guy this year, no doubt, but I'm not buying just yet.

You are right in saying that any player within the top 10 can pretty much have a shot at 90+ points.
It really comes down to your perception of how likely they are to do so.

I still disagree with regards to the Devil's players. I don't see Elias even coming close to 75 points. I think Langenbrunner will be lucky to score over 55. It's not impossible to succeed in Lemaire's system (M. Koivu) but it certainly is not going to be a walk in the park.

You're probably right and the more I think about it and talk to other fantasy hockey guys around here, the more I tend to agree. I may have put too much stock in the fact that I think it takes close to a year to ingrain the system in these guys and as a result, one-year leagues shouldn't shy too far away.

Do you guys know of a place that has a good tiered ranking, or where would you put the tiers on your own rankings? I am playing in my first fantasy hockey league this year and I'm almost completely clueless, a good tiered breakdown would really be helpful. (Which is not to say that this positional breakdown isn't already helpful. It is. Very helpful, I'll certainly be referring to it during my first draft. . .)

The funniest thing for me is the big ranges between all of our D rankings.

Big fan of Lucic. Love him in Roto as he contributes everywhere. Same with Morrow.

I love Lecavalier, but I like all the others a bit more. A top 8 C still puts up major numbers. Just goes to show how deep the position is.
