Sleeper Watch

By Thomas Allen

Washington Capitals v New Jersey DevilsTomas Fleischmann is on a roll right now, and anyone who needs help at the often-thin right wing should take a look. Fleischmann recently logged a goal in three consecutive games. He has points in seven of the last eight, including two assists recently in Washington’s victory over Atlanta, and the game-winning goal over Montreal on Friday. Nine goals this season is quite a bit for a player largely unnoticed.

Caps fans know that Fleischmann was to factor heavily in the offense at some point: Boudreau stated as much. But any hype Fleischmann may have had was lost when he started this season slowly. In spite of his recent hot streak, he’s only tallied thirteen points in twenty-one games. Don’t pay attention to that. Instead, look at his recent gameplay, and see that he’s now seeing time on the Ovechkin line centered by Backstrom. This amounts in a ton of scoring opportunities, and Fleischmann is a playmaker.

For teams that need help at RW, Fleischmann is a great player unowned in most leagues and more than worthy of a gamble with his recent point-per-game pace.
