Now that Anaheim has beaten Ottawa in the finals and claimed the Stanley Cup, our attention turns to the off-season moves. Some fans live for the off-season, as that’s where they believe champions are made. Between the draft, the free agent class, trading, and predicting which stars will rise, and which will fall, there’s always something of interest going on. Even if it’s only sitting back and celebrating the moves your favorite team makes, or yelling at them about how dumb their moves are, it still makes for interesting times.
The NHL Draft is here, and while free agents are currently being signed, don’t overlook the draft. This is where teams can land players that will be with the franchise for a very long time. These are the building blocks the teams will be looking towards building around in the future. Chicago has the number one overall pick in this draft. Do you think you know who they are going to take? Tune in and see if your predictions come true.
So has your team made any moves just yet? If so, you’ve already smiled, cried, or screamed, and your fun has already begun. If your team has yet to make a move (or a substantial one), don’t worry, it will happen. Now is the time for everyone to play General Manager of their team and figure out what the best moves are, so put on the hat and have some fun.
Oh, and for those of you in keeper and dynasty fantasy leagues, don’t get so wrapped up in real life events that you overlook your leagues. All kinds of things are going on right now, such as new rules changes, who will be returning to play next season, and where your league will be hosted, among many other topics of discussion. The biggest one is trades! Now is the time to get your rankings tweaked, get your projections lined up, and build your team to win it all next season. Be it through solid drafting, great predictions, fantastic trades, or any combination of factors, being prepared is the key to victory in hard fought fantasy leagues, so get to work. Your opponents have already begun, so don’t get left in the dust. Most of all and most importantly, have some fun with it all and watch the hard work pay off next season.
